Why Give Away 1,000 Copies?

Honestly, in many respects, for purely selfish reasons. Yes, it's true that I really have a passion for educating people about motor oil and filtration, but, the truth is, I also have a passion for making money. And, even though giving away 1,000 copies of my book means that I'm, technically, giving away $17,000, it will be worth it, in the end, if my hunch is right.

You see, this is a brand new rewrite of the book, and I really need to get the word out, so that I can begin building traffic to the site again. So, by giving away 1,000 copies, not only do I generate interest (because everyone likes to get something free, right?), I also have built in a mechanism for making that work FOR me.

The fact is, there's a catch involved here - but just a little one. In order to get the free copy, I only ask that you tell some friends about the book and the offer, and that you give me your constructive feedback (positive or negative) when you finish the book. Why Did I Write the Book?

I originally wrote the beginnings of "The Motor Oil Bible" as an information pamphlet to help potential customers understand the basics of lubrication and filtration and to assist them in deciding if my products were really right for their application. Over time, it grew into an ever larger manual as I added answers to common questions.

About 10 years ago, it became "The Motor Oil Bible", a very complete guide to lubrication and filtration, intentionally written in a way that would be understandable to the average motorist, while providing detailed enough information to satisfy even the most experienced mechanics. This book was sold online for a number of years until the information became a little outdated (since I hadn't had time to revise and update it). At that point, I began offering the book as a free download, since I didn't any longer feel right about selling the book, being that it wasn't completely up to date.

Finally, just this month it became "The Motor Oil Bible" 2.0 - a newly revised, updated and expanded version of the original work, which will now be available, not only in PDF format, but also as an MP3 audio version and a paperback version available through Amazon.com

Why Should You Trust Me?

Well, in a perfect world, the answer would be "Because I'm trustworthy." However, since we don't live in a perfect world, and you don't know me from Adam, I've got my work cut out for me. So, here's a little info about me and why I think you should trust me:

My name is Mike Kaufman. I'm married with 4 awesome kids, living in Lowell, Michigan ("farm country" near Grand Rapids). I've been selling oil for 13+ years and have thousands of customers - as well as thousands of individuals that I've consulted that do NOT use my products (many of whom I've intentionally turned away from my products because they weren't a good fit).

My personal business philosophy is pretty simple: if you treat people right, whether they buy your products or not, they'll remember you and they'll recommend your business to others. Honestly, I'm utterly amazed at the number of companies I've dealt with that don't seem to understand this simple business building concept.

I regularly recommend OTHER BRAND products to people because I don't feel that my products are a good fit for them, and I've had ALOT of people thank me profusely for it (because they are sooooooo NOT used to that). At the same time, I'm not shy about telling people when I believe my products will truly benefit them and help them acheive their maintenance goals.

I can often spend an hour or more just "talking oil" with someone - even if I've already established they are unlikely to purchase anything from me - it's what I do (just ask my wife how many times we've been late getting out of the house because of it :-).

I'm really not out to "sucker" you or mislead you. It's just not in my nature to do that. I'm an educator by training and by passion. It's what I love to do. In fact, I tutored MANY other students throughout my high school and college years, in addition to teaching at an alternative high school for a few years before starting my own business.

So, when I recognize that I have knowledge or information that other people could benefit from, I feel compelled to find a way to get that information into their hands and to help them understand it - and that is what "The Motor Oil Bible" is all about. Educating motorists about a topic that can often be as confusing as trying to learn geometry in a room full of fun house mirrors.

Most people are simply baffled about motor oil and filtration. And, quite frankly, most of the rest "think" they understand lubrication and filtration when, in reality, most of what they "know" is wrong. I've literally spent thousands of hours researching and studying motor oil and filtration, not only through books, articles, trade magazines, test results, technical papers and the like, but also through my own use and testing as well as lengthy discussions with numerous lube experts, mechanics and customers.

In the end, whether you trust me or not is completely up to you. I don't really have much control over that. All I can tell you is that, as a follower of Christ, I know that there will come a time when I'll have to stand before my Maker and account for the way I lived my life.

Even though I have the security of knowing that I'll spend eternity in heaven with my Creator, God knows how I'm treating people - whether I love them or shun them, whether I'm honest with them or trying to make a fast buck. He knows whether I've been compassionate and merciful or whether I've exacted vengence at every opportunity. I want my God to be proud of the way I've lived my life, and I believe that applies to my business as much as anything else.

I truly and sincerely want to help you better manage the resources that God has so graciously given you, and the one way that I have to do that is to help you understand how to best lubricate your expensive vehicles and equipment so that they perform well for you for many years to come. "The Motor Oil Bible" is my humble attempt at making the world a better place through the knowledge that God has given me. I hope that you'll find it as useful as so many others have.
